Updated: Added new "## Vendor Registry System" section with comprehensive documentation

Content Added:

Overview Section

  • Updated main overview to highlight vendor registry system with link to Issue #11
  • Mentions thread-safe registration, priority-based routing, and automatic rate limiting

New Vendor Registry System Section

1. Core Components Subsection

  • VendorRegistry description with key features
    • Thread-safe singleton
    • Centralized management with priority-based routing
    • Method-to-vendor mapping
    • Double-checked locking pattern
  • BaseVendor description with key features
    • Abstract base class
    • 3-stage lifecycle: transform_query() → extract_data() → transform_data()
    • Built-in retry logic with exponential backoff
    • Standardized VendorResponse format
  • Decorators description with usage
    • @register_vendor() - Auto-register with capabilities and priority
    • @vendor_method() - Map implementation methods
    • @rate_limited() - Sliding window rate limiting with burst support

2. Using the Vendor Registry Code Examples

  • Getting registry instance
  • Getting vendors supporting a method (ordered by priority)
  • Getting vendor metadata
  • Listing all registered vendors
  • Getting methods by capability

3. Creating a Custom Vendor Subsection Complete working example showing:

  • @register_vendor decorator with parameters
  • VendorMetadata auto-collection from @vendor_method decorators
  • Implementation of all three abstract methods
  • @vendor_method decorator mapping
  • @rate_limited decorator for rate limiting
  • Error handling in transform_data
  • Auto-registration on class definition

Key Features Documented

Vendor Registry

  • Thread-safe singleton with double-checked locking
  • Priority-based routing (vendors ordered by priority)
  • Capability tracking and querying
  • Method-to-vendor mapping
  • Automatic registry clearing for testing

BaseVendor

  • 3-stage lifecycle pattern for all vendor implementations
  • Exponential backoff retry logic
  • Configurable retry parameters (max_retries, retry_delay, backoff_factor)
  • Call counting for monitoring vendor usage
  • Standardized VendorResponse with metadata, success flag, error tracking

Decorators

  • @register_vendor: Auto-discovers @vendor_method decorated methods
  • @vendor_method: Maps implementation methods to standard interface names
  • @rate_limited: Sliding window algorithm with thread-safe state management
  • Burst limiting support (optional)
